Vic Toews resigns with $80k annual pension

Author: Nick Bergamini 2013/07/08

Public Safety Minister Vic Toews is resigning with a $79,584 a year – indexed to inflation – pension for his 13 years in office as a Manitoba MP. He was appointed to Stephen Harper’s first cabinet in 2006, previously working as the federal justice minister and the president of the Treasury Board.

If he lives until age 90 – the average life expectancy of parliamentary pension plan members – he will get a lifetime pension of $2.7 million. Rumours of his departure from politics have circulated for years as many speculate that he will be appointed to be a federal judge in Manitoba.
